Car
If you are driving, begin on NY-73 from your starting location in the Adirondack Mountains. Follow NY-73 toward Keene. As you approach the town of Keene, look for signs for the parking area for the Indian Head Trailhead. The trailhead is located approximately 5 miles from the center of Keene. There is a parking area available, but be aware that there is a parking fee of around $10 for the day. Make sure to bring cash, as some locations may not accept cards.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, check for services like the Adirondack Trailways bus which can take you to Keene from major locations like Lake Placid or Saranac Lake. Once you arrive in Keene, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to the Indian Head Trailhead, as public transportation options are limited in this area. Be prepared for a taxi fare that could range from $15 to $30 depending on the distance from the bus stop to the trailhead.
Hiking
After you have parked at the Indian Head Trailhead, prepare for a hike. The trail to Indian Head is about 2.5 miles long and can take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit, depending on your pace. The trail is moderately strenuous, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water and snacks. Enjoy the scenic views along the way!
