Car
From Whiteface Mountain, head south on Whiteface Mountain Rd towards NY-86. After about 9 miles, turn left onto NY-86. Continue for approximately 6 miles until you reach Lake Placid. Once in Lake Placid, take a left onto Timber Lane. The High Peaks Wilderness area will be on your right after about 1 mile. Make sure to check for parking areas near the trailheads.
Public Transportation
To reach High Peaks Wilderness from Whiteface Mountain using public transport, you will first need to take a bus to Lake Placid. Check the local bus schedules for the latest routes and times. Once you arrive in Lake Placid, you can either walk or take a taxi to Timber Lane. The High Peaks Wilderness area is approximately 1 mile from the center of Lake Placid. Note that public transportation may have limited service, so plan your trip accordingly.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can bike from Whiteface Mountain to High Peaks Wilderness. Follow the same route as the car guidance: head south on Whiteface Mountain Rd to NY-86. Use caution as you share the road with traffic. The distance is about 15 miles, so ensure you bring plenty of water and snacks for the journey.
