If you are driving from Rotorua city center, head southeast on Fenton Street toward Rangiuru Street. Continue on Fenton Street until you reach the intersection with Eruera Street. Turn right onto Eruera Street, which will turn into State Highway 5. Continue on SH5 for about 6 kilometers, then take the exit toward Ngongotaha. Follow the signs for Ngongotaha and turn left onto Mountain Road. Continue on Mountain Road for about 3 kilometers, and you will find the entrance to Mount Ngongotaha Scenic Reserve on your left. There is no charge to enter the reserve.

To reach Mount Ngongotaha Scenic Reserve via public transport, take a bus from Rotorua city center. You can catch the Rotorua Lakes Council bus service, which has routes heading towards Ngongotaha. Board the bus at the main bus stop and confirm with the driver that it stops at Ngongotaha. Once you arrive at the Ngongotaha bus stop, you’ll need to walk approximately 1.5 kilometers along Mountain Road to reach the entrance of Mount Ngongotaha Scenic Reserve. Be sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time to plan your trip, as service frequency may vary. The fare for the bus is typically around NZD 2.50 to NZD 5.00, depending on your travel zone.
