Getting There

  • Car

    From the center of Fox Glacier, head south on State Highway 6 (SH6) towards Franz Josef Glacier for about 30 kilometers. Once you reach the junction with Mount Cook Road, turn left onto Mount Cook Road. Continue on this road for around 31 kilometers until you reach the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park entrance. After entering the park, follow the signs to the Hooker Trail Head, which will be on your right at 89 Terrace Road.

    Take the InterCity bus service from Fox Glacier to Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Aoraki Mount Cook visitor center, you can either walk or take a shuttle (if available) to the Hooker Trail Head, which is about a 10 to 15-minute walk from the visitor center. Look for the signs directing you to the Hooker Valley Track.
