Car
From Napier, take State Highway 2 heading towards Wairoa. After approximately 30 minutes, turn left onto State Highway 50 towards Hastings. Continue on State Highway 50 for about 20 minutes until you reach the junction with State Highway 2 again. Turn right onto State Highway 2 and continue for another 15 minutes. Look for signs to the 'Ruahine Forest Park' and turn onto the access road. Follow this road for about 10 km until you reach the designated parking area near the trailhead for Shutes Hut.

Catch a bus service from Napier or Hastings to the town of Wairoa. From Wairoa, you will need to arrange a taxi or shuttle service to take you to the Ruahine Forest Park entrance. The bus ride will take approximately 1 hour. Taxi services may vary in price, so it's advisable to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey. Once you arrive at the park entrance, follow the signs to the Shutes Hut trailhead, which is approximately a 1-2 hour hike, depending on your fitness level.
