To reach Takou Bay by car, start from Whangarei, which is approximately 1.5 hours away. Head north on State Highway 1 (SH1) for about 30 km, then take the exit to SH10 toward Kerikeri. Continue on SH10 for about 30 km until you reach Kerikeri. From Kerikeri, follow the signs to Takou Bay via Takou Bay Road. This road will take you directly to the bay. Note that the last part of the drive along Takou Bay Road may be unsealed, so drive carefully. There is no parking fee at Takou Bay.
