Getting there

By Car

From Dunedin city center, head south on Princes Street toward Moray Place. Continue onto the one-way system and take the exit onto State Highway 1 (SH1) towards Christchurch. After about 2 km, take the exit toward SH88 (Port Chalmers). Follow SH88 for approximately 10 km. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Portobello Road. Continue on Portobello Road for about 5 km until you reach Camp Road. Turn right onto Camp Road, and Larnach Castle will be on your left at 145 Camp Road. Parking is available on-site.

By Bus

If you prefer public transport, you can take the bus from Dunedin city center. Look for the bus service that goes to Portobello. The bus departs from the Octagon area. Confirm the bus schedule as services may vary. Once you arrive in Portobello, you may need to walk or take a taxi for the final stretch to Larnach Castle, which is about 4 km away. Check with local taxi services for fares or consider rideshare options.

Walking from Bus Stop

If you arrive at the Portobello bus stop, you can walk to Larnach Castle. Head southeast on Portobello Road toward Camp Road. After approximately 4 km, turn left onto Camp Road. Larnach Castle will be on your left at 145 Camp Road. This walk may take around 45 minutes, so wear comfortable shoes and consider the weather.
