Start your journey from the Tasman area. If you are in Richmond, take State Highway 6 heading towards Nelson. Continue on State Highway 6 for approximately 16 kilometers. You will pass through the suburb of Atawhai. Look for the signs indicating Historic Mound as you approach Nelson. The Historic Mound is located on Highway 6, Atawhai, Nelson 7010. There is limited parking available along the highway, so make sure to park safely without obstructing traffic.

From Richmond, take the Nelson City bus service (check the local bus schedule for the latest times). Board the bus that heads to Nelson city center. Once you arrive in Nelson, you will need to transfer to a local bus that goes towards Atawhai. The bus stop closest to Historic Mound is along Highway 6. Be sure to inform the driver or check the route signs to confirm that you are heading in the right direction. Once you arrive at the stop, you may need to walk a short distance to reach Historic Mound. Keep an eye out for the nearby roads and follow the signs.

If you arrive at the bus stop on Highway 6, you will need to walk to Historic Mound. It is a short walk, approximately 300 meters. Head in the direction of the Historic Mound sign. You will walk along the side of the highway, so be cautious of traffic. The mound will be visible from the road, and you can easily access it once you arrive.
