Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Taupo i-SITE Visitor Centre located at 30 Tongariro Street, head southeast on Tongariro Street towards Lake Terrace. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Lake Terrace. Turn left onto Lake Terrace and walk along the lakefront towards the south. After approximately 1 kilometer, you will reach the roundabout at the intersection with the Central Plateau Loop Road. Take the first exit onto the Central Plateau Loop Road and continue walking for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Shepherd Road. Turn left onto Shepherd Road and walk for another 500 meters. The entrance to Waipahihi Botanical Reserve will be on your right at the corner of Shepherd Road and Hyde Avenue.

    From the Taupo i-SITE Visitor Centre, walk to the nearest bus stop located on Tongariro Street. Take the 'Taupo Local' bus service (check the latest schedule and routes) heading towards Waipahihi. Get off at the stop closest to Shepherd Road. From there, walk up Shepherd Road for about 500 meters, and you will find the entrance to Waipahihi Botanical Reserve on your right at the corner of Shepherd Road and Hyde Avenue.
