Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring Coyotepe.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Walking
Start at Parque Central de Masaya. From the park, head south on Calle 1ra, passing the Masaya Cathedral. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Calle 3ra. Turn left onto Calle 3ra and walk until you see the local market on your right. This area has local shops where you can buy snacks and drinks. Next, continue walking along Calle 3ra until you reach the bus terminal, which is located near the Mercado de Masaya.
Bus
From the bus terminal, look for a bus or 'microbus' heading to the town of Masatepe or Coyotepe. These buses are frequent and usually marked on the front. Board the bus and inform the driver that you are going to Coyotepe. The ride will take approximately 15-20 minutes. You will get off the bus at the closest stop to Fortaleza El Coyotepe.
Walking
Once you disembark, follow the signs leading to Fortaleza El Coyotepe. You'll need to walk uphill for about 1 kilometer. The path can be steep, so wear comfortable shoes. Enjoy the views as you ascend, and keep an eye out for local wildlife along the way.
Use Coyotepe as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
