If you are traveling by car on Ometepe Island, make your way to Muelle de Moyogalpa, which is the main ferry port on the island. From anywhere on the island, you can follow the main roads leading to Moyogalpa. Ensure you have a GPS or a map, as local signage may be limited. The drive should take about 30-60 minutes depending on your starting point. Be cautious of rural roads and watch for wildlife. There is no parking fee at the port.
Public Transportation (Bus)
For those using public transport, take a local bus heading to Moyogalpa from your location on the island. Buses run frequently, and they are an affordable option, costing around $1-2 USD. Ensure to ask the driver to let you know when you reach Moyogalpa. The journey will typically take about 1 hour. Once you arrive at the Moyogalpa bus station, follow signs to the ferry terminal.
Ferry
The ferry to Ometepe departs from San Jorge on the mainland. If you are already on the island, you will not need to take the ferry again. However, if you are returning to the mainland, follow the signs from Moyogalpa to the ferry terminal. Tickets for the ferry cost approximately $3 USD per person.
