Getting There

  • Bus

    Start at the Asheville Transit Center located at 49 Coxe Ave, Asheville, NC 28801. From there, take the ART (Asheville Redefines Transit) bus route 1 towards 'Biltmore Village.' After about 20 minutes, get off at the Biltmore Village stop. Transfer to the ART route 5 heading towards 'Arboretum.' This will take you directly to The North Carolina Arboretum. The entire journey should take approximately 40-50 minutes.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in downtown Asheville. Head west on College Street, then take a left onto Patton Avenue. Continue on Patton Avenue until you reach the entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The route to The North Carolina Arboretum is scenic and follows the Parkway for about 5 miles. Look for the signs indicating the Arboretum and follow Frederick Law Olmsted Way to reach your destination. This route will take about 30-40 minutes depending on your cycling speed.

    For those who enjoy a longer walk, start from downtown Asheville. Head southwest on Patton Avenue. Continue walking for about 2.5 miles until you reach the Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn onto the Parkway and follow the signs towards The North Carolina Arboretum. The walk is approximately 3 miles from the Parkway entrance to the Arboretum, making the total distance around 5.5 miles. Be prepared for some uphill walking, and allow about 1.5 to 2 hours for this journey.
