Walking
Starting from downtown Boone, head south on King Street towards Blowing Rock Road (US-321). Continue on King Street for about 0.3 miles until you reach the intersection with Blowing Rock Road. Turn left onto Blowing Rock Road and follow it for approximately 5 miles. You will pass by several shops and restaurants. After 5 miles, look for the signs for Thunder Hill Overlook on your right. Follow the signs and take a short walk up the path to reach the overlook.

If you have access to a bike, start from downtown Boone and head south on King Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Blowing Rock Road (US-321). Turn left onto Blowing Rock Road and bike for about 5 miles. There are bike lanes available for most of the route. When you see signs for Thunder Hill Overlook, turn onto the access road and park your bike at the designated area. Walk up the short path to reach the overlook.
