Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the Boone Town Hall located at 567 W King St, Boone, NC 28607. Head west on W King St toward S Water St for about 0.2 miles. Turn left onto S Water St and continue for another 0.2 miles until you reach the intersection with E Main St. Turn right onto E Main St and walk for about 0.3 miles. You will pass several shops and restaurants. When you reach the intersection with US-421 N, cross the road carefully and continue straight onto Howards Knob Rd. Follow Howards Knob Rd for approximately 1.5 miles, and the entrance to Howards Knob County Park will be on your left.

  • Biking

    If you have access to a bike, start your journey at the Appalachian State University campus. Head north on Rivers St toward W King St. Turn right onto W King St and then left onto S Water St. Follow S Water St to E Main St, then turn right. Continue straight until you reach US-421 N. Carefully cross the highway and continue straight onto Howards Knob Rd. Keep biking for about 1.5 miles, and you will see the entrance to Howards Knob County Park on your left.

  • Public Transit

    Although Boone does not have a formal public transit system, you can take the AppalCART bus service. Board the Blue Route at any designated bus stop and ride towards the Watauga County Library. Get off at the stop closest to the intersection of US-421. From there, you will need to walk about 1 mile along Howards Knob Rd to reach Howards Knob County Park. Follow the pedestrian path until you see the park entrance on your left.
