Walking
From the center of Boone, head east on West King Street. Continue straight as it turns into US-321 S. Walk approximately 2 miles until you reach the intersection with NC-105 S. Cross at the crosswalk and turn right onto NC-105 S. Follow NC-105 S for about 1.5 miles until you reach the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Once you enter the Parkway, continue on the road for about 4.5 miles. Look for signs for Thunder Hill Overlook on your right; the parking area will be just off the road.
Biking
Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Boone. Start at the Boone Greenway Trail near the Appalachian State University campus. Follow the trail until you reach the intersection with US-321 S. Turn right onto US-321 S and bike for about 2 miles. At the intersection with NC-105 S, turn right. Continue biking on NC-105 S for approximately 1.5 miles until you reach the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance. Once on the Parkway, bike for about 4.5 miles and look for the Thunder Hill Overlook sign on your right; the parking area will be nearby.
Public Transport
Check the local bus schedule for the AppalCART service, which operates in Boone. Board the bus heading towards Blowing Rock. Request to get off at the closest stop to the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance. From there, you will need to walk about 1 mile to the Parkway entrance. Once you enter the Parkway, walk for about 4.5 miles until you see signs for Thunder Hill Overlook; the parking area will be just off the road.
