From downtown Hickory, locate the nearest bus stop on 1st Avenue NW. Board the Catawba Valley Transit Authority (CVTA) Route 3 towards Conover. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the stop at the intersection of US-70 and Lake James State Park Rd. From there, it's about a 2-mile walk to the park entrance. Follow Lake James State Park Rd until you see the entrance on your right.

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from a local rental shop in Hickory. Start at the shop and head north on 1st Avenue NW, then turn left onto US-70 E. Continue on US-70 for approximately 12 miles. Look for Lake James State Park Rd on your right, and follow it for about 2 miles until you reach the park entrance.

If you are near the town center of Hickory, you can walk to Lake James State Park. Head west on Main Ave NW and continue until it becomes US-70 W. Walk along US-70 W for about 12 miles, then turn right onto Lake James State Park Rd. Follow the road for approximately 2 miles until you reach the entrance of the park. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated!
