If you are traveling by car, start by heading south on NC-12 from any point in the Outer Banks. If you are in the northern part of the Outer Banks, such as Corolla or Duck, it will take approximately 1-2 hours to reach Bodie Island Lighthouse, depending on traffic. Follow NC-12 until you reach Nags Head. Look for the sign indicating Bodie Island Lighthouse and turn left onto Bodie Island Lighthouse Rd. Continue straight until you reach the lighthouse, which is located at 8210 Bodie Island Lighthouse Rd, Nags Head, NC 27959. There is ample parking available at the site.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you may take the Dare County Public Transit (DCP Transit) bus service. Check the DCP Transit schedule for the most accurate routes and times. You will want to board the bus heading toward Nags Head. Once you arrive at a stop near the lighthouse, you will need to walk approximately 0.5 miles to reach Bodie Island Lighthouse. Make sure to plan your trip as the bus service may have limited hours.
Biking
Biking is another great option to reach Bodie Island Lighthouse, especially for those staying nearby. If you are in Nags Head, you can ride your bike along the scenic bike paths. Follow the bike routes that lead to Bodie Island Lighthouse. Be sure to wear a helmet and follow all traffic regulations. The ride is approximately 3 miles from the center of Nags Head, making it a nice short ride.
