If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town or location in Lake Sakakawea. Head towards Highway 83 North. Continue on Highway 83 for approximately 20 miles until you reach the junction with Highway 200. Turn left onto Highway 200 West and follow it for about 6 miles. You will see signs directing you to Garrison Dam. Continue straight, and you will arrive at Garrison Dam located in Coleharbor, ND 58531. Make sure to check for parking availability near the visitor center.

If you are using public transportation, first check local shuttle services or bus routes that connect to Coleharbor. As there may be limited options, you might need to take a bus to Minot or Bismarck and then transfer to a service that heads towards Garrison Dam. Once you reach Coleharbor, you may need to walk or arrange a local taxi to cover the final distance to Garrison Dam.

For those adventurous enough to bike, you can use the same route as driving. Start from your location in Lake Sakakawea and cycle towards Highway 83 North. It’s a scenic ride with minimal traffic, but be sure to wear a helmet and bring plenty of water. Once you reach the junction with Highway 200, turn left and continue biking for about 6 miles until you arrive at Garrison Dam. Note that cycling along highways can be challenging, so be prepared for roadside conditions.
