If you're driving from the city of Alta, take the E6 highway heading north. Continue on the E6 until you reach the town of Olderfjord, where you will follow the signs for Route 888 towards Magerøya. After approximately 35 kilometers, you will cross the undersea tunnel (Magerøytunnelen) that connects you to Magerøya Island. Be prepared for a tunnel toll, which costs around 85 NOK (Norwegian Krone) for a standard car. Once on the island, follow the signs to the Nordkapp (North Cape) area to reach your destination.
By Bus
For those preferring public transport, you can take a bus from Alta to Honningsvåg. The bus service is operated by Troms fylkestrafikk, and it runs several times a day. The journey takes about 4-5 hours. Upon arrival in Honningsvåg, you can take a local bus or taxi to reach the Nordkapp area on Magerøya. The bus fare from Alta to Honningsvåg is approximately 400 NOK. Note that local transportation options may have limited schedules, so check the timetable in advance.
By Train and Bus
Although there are no direct train services to Magerøya, you can take a train from Oslo to Fauske. From Fauske, you can catch a bus to Alta. Once in Alta, follow the bus instructions provided above to reach Honningsvåg. This method is less direct and may take longer, so ensure your schedule allows for this option. Train tickets can vary widely in price based on how far in advance you book.
By Taxi
If you're looking for a more direct and convenient option, consider taking a taxi. While more expensive, a taxi can take you from any location in Finnmark directly to Magerøya. Ensure to agree on a fare before starting your journey, as prices can be high, potentially exceeding 2000 NOK depending on your starting point.
