Alesund & Mount Aksla: A Gem of Art Nouveau
Dani is your guide! He knows the way to the top!
Dani was GREAT. He had such extensive knowledge of Ålesund. He took us through the city, describing the architecture and history ... the great fire of 1904 and the two remaining buildings. He knew the history of WWII and the German Atlantic Wall remains. He also took us on an "out of the way" trek to the views from the top of the high peak just over the city and fjords. On our way down the 418 stairs, we saw all of the tourists climbing straight up to the top--all of them sucking air--and they missed completely the walks through the woods and the beautiful views we had. We were with Dani for the better part of 3 hours. An exceptional tour guide.
