Buttermilk Falls: Nature's Serene Escape

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car within Punderson State Park, begin at the Punderson State Park Lodge. Head southeast on Punderson State Park Rd toward Punderson Manor Dr. Continue on Punderson Manor Dr until you reach the intersection with State Route 87. Turn left onto State Route 87 and continue for about 8 miles until you reach the intersection with I-271. Merge onto I-271 South and follow it for approximately 10 miles. Take exit 32B for US-422 East toward Cleveland. Continue on US-422 for about 4 miles, then take the exit for Mayfield Rd (State Route 322) and turn left onto Mayfield Rd. After approximately 1 mile, turn right onto Buttermilk Falls Parkway. The falls will be located nearby; follow the signs for Buttermilk Falls Scenic Overlook.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from the nearest city to Punderson State Park. Begin by taking a bus to the nearest transit hub in Cleveland. From there, take the RTA bus route 38 towards Mayfield Heights. Get off at the stop near Mayfield Road. From there, you may need to walk approximately 1 mile to reach Buttermilk Falls. Be sure to check the RTA schedule for any potential delays and plan accordingly.

• Walking

  If you are already within Punderson State Park and prefer to walk, locate the main trailhead near the lodge. Follow the marked hiking trails that lead toward the park exit, then continue onto the adjacent trails leading to Buttermilk Falls. It is about a 3-mile hike from the lodge, so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for varying terrain. Keep an eye out for trail markers to ensure you stay on the correct path.
