Getting There

Car
From Black Mesa State Park, head southeast on State Highway 325 (OK-325) towards the town of Kenton. Continue on OK-325 for about 40 miles until you reach the junction with US-283. Turn left onto US-283 South and continue for approximately 22 miles until you reach the town of Altus. In Altus, take the exit for US-62 East and follow it for about 25 miles. You will then merge onto US-271 North, which will take you directly to Spiro. Upon entering Spiro, turn left onto North 1st Street, and the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center will be located on your right at 18154 North 1st Street. The total drive time is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes depending on traffic.

While public transportation options are limited in this rural area, you can take a Greyhound bus from larger cities such as Oklahoma City or Tulsa to reach Spiro. Once you arrive in Spiro, you will need to use a taxi service or rideshare to reach the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center. The taxi ride will be approximately 10 minutes from the bus stop. Please check the Greyhound schedule in advance for availability and book your ticket early as the service may not be frequent.
