Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from downtown Baker City, start on Main Street heading east. Continue straight for about 1.5 miles until you reach the intersection with OR-86. Turn right onto OR-86 and follow the road for approximately 6 miles. The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center will be on your left at 22267 OR-86. There is free parking available on-site.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in Baker County. However, you can check with local services such as Baker County Transit. If available, take a bus towards Haines or Baker City. Make sure to inform the driver of your destination and ask if they stop near OR-86. If the bus does not go directly to the Interpretive Center, you may need to use a rideshare service or taxi from the nearest drop-off point.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, Baker City has bike-friendly routes. Start from downtown Baker City and take Main Street to OR-86. The ride is about 6 miles and is mostly flat, with some scenic views along the way. Ensure you wear a helmet and follow all traffic rules. Note that there are no dedicated bike lanes on OR-86.

• Walking

  Walking to the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is not recommended due to the distance of approximately 6 miles from downtown Baker City and the lack of pedestrian paths on OR-86. If you choose to walk, start on Main Street, then transition to OR-86, but be cautious of traffic.
