Getting There

  • Public Bus

    Start at the Bend Central District. Take the Cascades East Transit (CET) Bus Route 1, which runs towards the Bend Airport. You will want to get off at the stop at the intersection of Highway 97 and Cottonwood Road. From there, it's about a 1.5-mile walk to Lava River Cave. Head south on Cottonwood Road until you reach the cave entrance.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer biking, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in downtown Bend. Start from the Old Mill District and take the Deschutes River Trail south until you reach the intersection with Highway 97. From there, follow Highway 97 south for about 3 miles until you reach Cottonwood Road. Turn left on Cottonwood Road and continue for 1.5 miles to reach Lava River Cave.

    If you are feeling adventurous and want to walk, you can start from downtown Bend. Head south on Wall Street until you reach the intersection with Newport Ave. Turn left on Newport Ave and continue until you reach the intersection with Highway 97.
