Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car within Crook County, start your journey from Prineville, the largest city in the county. Head east on E 3rd St toward NE Elm St, then turn left onto NE Elm St. Continue onto US-26 E, which you will follow for approximately 18 miles. After reaching the junction with OR-380 E, turn left and continue for about 15 miles. You will then see signs directing you toward the Ochoco Mountains. Take the Ochoco National Forest entrance, which will lead you into the mountains. Make sure to have a map or GPS for navigation as cell service may be limited in the area.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options to the Ochoco Mountains are limited. You can take a bus from Prineville to nearby towns. However, the closest bus stop to the Ochoco Mountains is in Mitchell, Oregon. From Prineville, take the Central Oregon Breeze bus service to Mitchell. Once you arrive in Mitchell, you may need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to get to the Ochoco Mountains, which is about 30 miles away. Ensure to check bus schedules in advance, as they may not run frequently.
