Car
To reach Deschutes National Forest by car, start from Bend, which is a central location in Deschutes County. Head west on US-20 W for about 20 miles. As you approach the forest area, you can enter through several access points. For the main entrance, take the exit for Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway (OR-46). This scenic route will lead you into the heart of the national forest. Be aware that some areas may require a parking fee, typically around $5, which can be paid at the entrance or through a self-service kiosk.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take the Cascades East Transit bus from Bend to the nearby town of Sisters. From Sisters, you can catch a shuttle service to various locations within Deschutes National Forest. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as service may be limited. The cost for the bus fare is usually around $2-$3 one way. Once in Sisters, the shuttle to the forest may incur an additional cost, generally around $15-$25, depending on your destination within the forest.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, biking to Deschutes National Forest is also an option. From Bend, you can take the River Trail, which connects to the Deschutes River and leads towards the park entrance.
