Car
If you're traveling by car, start from La Grande, Oregon, and head east on I-84. Take exit 265 for US-30 toward La Grande. Continue on US-30 for about 5 miles until you reach Owsley Canyon Road. Turn left onto Owsley Canyon Road and follow it for approximately 3 miles. The entrance to Mount Emily Recreation Area will be on your right at 63571 Owsley Canyon Rd, La Grande, OR 97850. Make sure to have a map or GPS device handy for navigation.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take a Greyhound bus to La Grande. From the Greyhound station, you can either take a local taxi or rideshare service like Uber or Lyft to reach Owsley Canyon Road. Please note that public transportation options may have limited schedules, so it's advisable to check the latest timings before your trip. The taxi or rideshare ride to Mount Emily Recreation Area will take about 15-20 minutes and may cost around $15-$25 depending on the time of day and demand.
Bicycle
For the adventurous, biking to Mount Emily Recreation Area is also an option! Starting from La Grande, head east on Adams Avenue, which will turn into US-30. From there, follow the same route as if you were driving, turning left onto Owsley Canyon Road. The round trip from La Grande will be approximately 12 miles, so plan accordingly with water and snacks. Remember to wear a helmet and obey traffic laws.
Hiking
If you are already in the vicinity and looking for a scenic hike, you can hike from La Grande to Mount Emily Recreation Area. The hike is about 6 miles and takes around 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Follow Adams Avenue to US-30 and then take Owsley Canyon Road towards your destination. Ensure you have a good map and adequate supplies for the hike.
