If you are coming from the north, take Highway 97 southbound. Look for signs indicating 'Lake Billy Chinook' as you approach. After approximately 10 miles south of Madras or 30 miles north of La Pine, take the exit for S. Century Drive (also known as Forest Road 41). Follow S. Century Drive for about 8 miles, where you will see signs for Lake Billy Chinook. The road may narrow, and you will pass through some beautiful forested areas. Continue to follow the signs until you reach the lake. Be aware that parking may incur a fee, typically around $5 for day-use access.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, start by taking a bus service from Bend or Redmond to Madras. Check the current bus schedules as they vary by day. Once you arrive in Madras, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach Lake Billy Chinook, as public transportation does not directly serve the lake. The taxi ride will be approximately 10 miles and may cost around $15-$20. Be sure to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your trip. Bicycle
