Car
To reach Eagle Cap by car, start from Joseph, Oregon, which is a central town in the Wallowa Mountains. Head east on OR-82 E for approximately 10 miles until you reach the intersection with Forest Road 39. Turn right onto Forest Road 39 and continue for about 18 miles. The road will lead you to the Eagle Cap Wilderness area. Note that the last few miles may be on unpaved roads, so a high-clearance vehicle is recommended. Follow the signs to the Eagle Cap Trailhead parking area, where you'll find the trailhead to begin your hike to the summit.
Public Transportation + Hiking
If you are using public transportation, take a bus to La Grande, Oregon. From La Grande, you can take a shuttle service to Joseph, which is the closest town to Eagle Cap. Once in Joseph, you can either rent a car or arrange for a local taxi service to take you to the Eagle Cap Trailhead. Be aware that shuttle services may require advance booking, and fares can vary. After reaching the trailhead, prepare for a steep hike, as the trail leading to Eagle Cap is well-marked and offers beautiful views along the way.
