Car
If you are traveling by car within Wasco County, head towards Highway 97. From The Dalles, take Highway 197 South towards Tygh Valley. Continue on Highway 197 until you reach the junction with Highway 97. Merge onto Highway 97 South and continue for approximately 15 miles. Take the exit for Terrebonne and continue onto Smith Rock State Park Road. Follow the signs to the Smith Rock State Park entrance. Note that there is a parking fee of $5 for day use.
Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited in Wasco County, but your best bet is to take the bus operated by the Columbia Area Transit (CAT). Check their schedule for a bus that goes to Redmond, OR. Once in Redmond, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service (such as Uber or Lyft) to take you the remaining 20 miles to Smith Rock. Expect to pay around $30-$40 for the taxi or rideshare service.
Bicycle
For the adventurous travelers, biking to Smith Rock can be an excellent option. From The Dalles, take the scenic route along Highway 197 South to Terrebonne. The distance is approximately 30 miles and can take 2-3 hours depending on your cycling speed and fitness level. Be sure to wear a helmet, bring water, and plan for any weather changes. Once you reach Terrebonne, follow the signs to Smith Rock State Park. Note that parking is available if you choose to ride partway and then park your bike.
