Getting There

• Car

  From the center of Prineville, Oregon, head east on NW 3rd St toward NW Madras St. Continue on this road as it becomes NE 3rd St. After approximately 0.5 miles, turn left onto NE 15th St. In about 1 mile, turn right onto NE 27th St. Follow this road for about 2 miles until it becomes Crooked River Hwy. Continue on Crooked River Hwy for about 12 miles. Look for signs directing you to Steins Pillar Trailhead. The entrance is located on the right side of the highway, near mile marker 24.

• Public Transportation

  Currently, public transportation options are limited in Wheeler County. However, if you are coming from nearby towns, check with local bus services or shuttle companies that may offer routes to Prineville. Once you arrive in Prineville, you may need to rent a car or use a rideshare service to reach Steins Pillar Trailhead, as there are no direct public transport routes to the trailhead itself.

• Biking

  If you're feeling adventurous and want to bike to Steins Pillar Trailhead, you can start in Prineville. Follow the same route as the car guidance, but be aware that Crooked River Hwy has some steep sections and traffic. Ensure you have proper biking equipment, including a helmet and lights, as parts of the road may not have shoulder space. This route is approximately 16 miles and is suitable for experienced cyclists.

• Hiking

  For the more adventurous, you can hike to Steins Pillar Trailhead from the closest camping area along the Crooked River. This would involve a long trek, so ensure you're prepared with proper gear, water, and food. The hike would be challenging and may take several hours, so it's recommended for experienced hikers only.
