Getting there

Car

If you are driving, start from Gilgit city. Head northwest on the Karakoram Highway (N-35) towards Hunza. After approximately 100 km, you will reach Karimabad. Once in Karimabad, follow signs for Baltit Fort, which is located a short distance uphill from the main road. There is parking available near the fort. Please note that the drive takes about 2-3 hours depending on road conditions.

Public Bus

To reach Baltit Fort via public transportation, take a bus or a van from Gilgit city to Karimabad. Buses depart regularly from the Gilgit bus station and the journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once you arrive in Karimabad, you can either walk to Baltit Fort (about a 20-minute walk uphill) or hire a local taxi for a short ride to the fort. The bus fare is typically around 300-500 PKR.

Taxi

If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Gilgit to Karimabad. The ride will take about 2-3 hours, and you can negotiate a fare with the taxi driver, typically ranging from 3000 to 5000 PKR depending on your bargaining skills and the type of vehicle.

Walking

If you are already in Karimabad, you can walk to Baltit Fort from the main market area. Simply head uphill towards the fort, following the signs. The walk is about 1.5 km and should take around 20-30 minutes. Be prepared for a steep incline, and wear comfortable shoes.
