Public Bus
From Gilgit city, head to the main bus stand located near the center of the city. Look for a bus heading towards Hunza or Gojal Valley. The buses usually leave every hour. When you board, inform the driver that you want to go to Attabad Lake. The bus ride takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. You will pass through beautiful landscapes and small villages. The bus will drop you off at a point near the lake.
Shared Taxi
At the Gilgit bus stand, you can also find shared taxis (often called 'sazgar') heading towards Hunza. These taxis are slightly more expensive than buses but are faster and more comfortable. Share a taxi with other passengers and enjoy the scenic ride which takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. Make sure to tell the driver to drop you at Attabad Lake.
Walking from the Drop-Off Point
Once you are dropped off by the bus or taxi near the lake, you will find yourself close to the shores of Attabad Lake. To get to the best views, walk along the path that leads towards the water. The walk is easy and should take around 10-15 minutes. Make sure to take your camera as the views of the lake surrounded by mountains are stunning.
