Getting There

• Car

  From Nanga Parbat Base Camp, head back towards the main road leading to Raikot Bridge. Follow the signs to Skardu, which is approximately a 4-hour drive. Once you reach Skardu, you can stop at Hussaini Chowk for supplies and any last-minute preparations before heading to K2 Base Camp.

• Public Transportation

  Take a local bus or shared jeep from Nanga Parbat Base Camp to Raikot Bridge. This journey can take around 3 to 4 hours depending on road conditions. Once at Raikot Bridge, look for transportation heading to Skardu. You may need to wait for a vehicle to fill up before departing. The ride to Skardu takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.

• Trekking

  Once you arrive in Skardu, you will need to arrange a trekking guide or join a guided group for the trek from Skardu to K2 Base Camp. The trek typically takes around 7 to 10 days, depending on your pace and the route taken. Start from Skardu and head towards Askole, which is the last village before the trek begins. From Askole, follow the Baltoro Glacier to reach K2 Base Camp. Ensure you have all necessary permits and a local guide for this section.

• Cost Consideration

  Be prepared for costs associated with transportation, guides, and permits. Local jeeps from Skardu to Askole can cost around PKR 5,000 to 10,000 per person. Trekking permits may range from PKR 4,000 to 8,000. Hiring a local guide can cost anywhere from PKR 2,000 to 5,000 per day.
