Car
If you are driving, navigate to the Hunza Valley via the Karakoram Highway (N-35). The nearest major city is Gilgit, which is about 100 km away from Hunza. Once you reach Hunza, follow the signs towards Karimabad. Altit Fort is located in Altit village, just a short drive from Karimabad. From Karimabad, take a left turn towards Altit village; the fort is well-signposted and about 3 km from Karimabad. There is parking available near the fort.
Public Transportation
To reach Altit Fort using public transport, board a bus or a shared van from Gilgit to Karimabad. The journey takes approximately 2-3 hours and costs around PKR 500-800. Once you arrive in Karimabad, you can either walk to Altit Fort (approximately 30-40 minutes) or hire a local taxi, which should cost around PKR 300-500 to take you to the fort. The fort is located about 3 km from Karimabad.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Gilgit to Altit Fort. This option is more expensive, costing around PKR 3000-4000, but it offers convenience. The taxi will take you directly to the fort, which is about 100 km from Gilgit and takes roughly 2-3 hours.
Local Guide
Hiring a local guide is highly recommended for a richer experience. Many guides are available in Karimabad. They can arrange transportation for you and provide valuable insights about the fort's history and architecture. The cost for a guide can range from PKR 1500 to PKR 3000 depending on the duration of your visit and the services provided.
