Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Walking
If you are in Mingora, start at the Mingora Clock Tower, a central landmark. From there, head south on Saidu Sharif Road for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Gulkada Road. Turn left onto Gulkada Road and continue walking for approximately 3 kilometers. You will pass through Gulkada village. Keep an eye out for local signboards that may direct you toward Butkara I. As you approach the area, look for the Q989+75R marker on your right, which indicates the location of Butkara I.
Public Transport (Rickshaw)
From the Mingora main bazaar, find a rickshaw stand. Take a rickshaw heading towards Gulkada; the fare is usually around 50-100 PKR. Ask the driver to drop you off at Butkara I or give them the address (Q989+75R, Gul Kada, Gulkada Mingora). The ride should take about 15-20 minutes. Once you arrive, you may need to walk a short distance to the actual site, which is well-marked.
Hiking
For those looking for a more adventurous route, consider hiking from the nearby hills. Start your hike from the Saidu Sharif Park, which is located about 2 kilometers from Mingora. Follow the trails leading down towards Gulkada, ensuring you keep the Butkara area in sight. This route offers scenic views of the Swat Valley. Once you reach the base, navigate towards the Q989+75R marker which will guide you to Butkara I.
