Car Rental
Start your journey in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. Rent a car from one of the local rental agencies. Drive along the Hiritano Highway (National Route 1) towards the town of Bereina. This stretch takes you through lush landscapes and small villages. The drive is approximately 50 kilometers and takes about 1.5 hours. Once you reach Bereina, you can refuel and pick up supplies if necessary. From Bereina, take the road leading towards the Great Papuan Plateau, which may require a 4WD vehicle due to rough terrain. Follow the signs directing towards the plateau for approximately 40 kilometers.

Public Transportation
From Port Moresby, head to the main bus terminal and catch a bus heading to Bereina. The bus ride costs around 20-30 PGK and takes around 2 hours. Once in Bereina, you will need to arrange for local transport, as public buses do not go directly to the Great Papuan Plateau. You can hire a local taxi or find a group of travelers to share a vehicle, which will cost approximately 100-150 PGK per person. This transport will take you closer to the plateau, but you may need to hike the last few kilometers.
