Car
If you are driving, begin your journey in the nearest town, Daru, located in the Western Province. From Daru, head south on the road towards the Fly River. Follow the signs that indicate the direction of the river. The road is unpaved in some areas, so a 4WD vehicle is recommended. After approximately 50 km, you will reach the riverbank where you can park your vehicle.
Public Transport
From Daru, you can take a local bus or hire a taxi to the river. Local buses leave from the main bus station in Daru and run frequently, but it is advisable to check the schedule in advance. The cost is usually around PGK 20-30 (Papua New Guinea Kina). The bus will take you to the vicinity of the riverbank, where you can disembark. Be prepared for a short walk to the river's edge.
Boat
Once you reach the riverbank, the best way to explore the Fly River is by boat. You can hire a small boat from local fishermen or tour operators in the area. The prices for boat rentals can vary, but expect to pay between PGK 100-200 for a half-day tour. Make sure to negotiate the price and confirm the duration of the trip before setting off.
