Walking
From the center of Rabaul, head east on the main road towards the coast. Continue walking along the road for about 3 kilometers until you reach the junction with the road leading to Kokopo. At this junction, turn right onto the Kokopo Road. Follow this road for approximately 5 kilometers. As you approach Pilapila, keep an eye out for local signs indicating the beach. The final stretch will take you through some residential areas. Continue until you reach the coast, where you will find Pilapila Beach. Be sure to enjoy the scenic views along the way!
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from a local shop in Rabaul. Start from the Rabaul town center and cycle east along the main coastal road. After about 3 kilometers, you will reach the junction with Kokopo Road. Make a right turn onto Kokopo Road and continue cycling for another 5 kilometers. Look for signs directing you towards Pilapila Beach. The route offers beautiful coastal scenery, and the gentle hills will be a pleasant ride. The beach is located at the end of the road, where you can enjoy the stunning views.
Public Transport (Bus)
From Rabaul's main bus station, take a bus heading towards Kokopo. Make sure to inform the driver that you want to get off at the stop for Pilapila Beach. The bus ride should take around 30 minutes. Once you get off, follow the local signs pointing towards the beach. It's a short walk from the bus stop to the beach area, where you can enjoy the natural beauty and relaxation.
Motorbike Taxi
In Rabaul, you can find motorbike taxis, often called 'bikes'. Negotiate with a rider to take you to Pilapila Beach. The journey will take about 20 minutes, and you should discuss and agree on the fare before starting. The ride will take you through some vibrant local areas, and the driver can drop you off right at the beach entrance.
