Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from downtown State College, take North Atherton Street (US-322) northbound. Continue for about 6 miles. Turn right onto Bear Meadows Road. Drive for approximately 1.5 miles, and you'll find the entrance to Bear Meadows Natural Area on your left. There is no entry fee for the park.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Bear Meadows Natural Area via public transportation, take the CATA bus service. Catch the bus from the HUB-Robeson Center at Penn State University to the North Atherton stop. From there, you will need to call a local taxi or rideshare service to cover the remaining distance of about 5 miles to Bear Meadows. Expect to pay approximately $15-$25 for the taxi ride, depending on the time of day and traffic.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, you can bike from downtown State College. Head north on North Atherton Street (US-322) and continue for about 6 miles. Then turn right onto Bear Meadows Road and cycle for about 1.5 miles to the entrance. Ensure that you have a helmet and follow all traffic laws.

• Walking

  Walking to Bear Meadows Natural Area from downtown State College is not recommended due to the distance (over 6 miles) and lack of sidewalks along some stretches of the road. However, if you are determined, follow North Atherton Street (US-322) northbound, and then turn right on Bear Meadows Road. Be cautious of traffic and plan for a long walk, which may take over 2 hours.
