Car
From the town of Milford, PA, head south on US-209 S. Follow US-209 to I-84 W. Merge onto I-84 W and take exit 1 for PA-739 toward Dingmans Ferry. Continue on PA-739 S to the intersection with US-6. Turn left onto US-6 E. After approximately 10 miles, follow signs to Pennsylvania Route 32 S, which will lead you to the Upper Delaware River area. Once you reach the intersection with PA-32, turn right. Continue south until you reach the river, then look for signs directing you to the Kelpius Cave, which is located off Hermit Lane in Philadelphia. The cave is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Milford, depending on traffic.
Public Transportation
If you're starting from Scranton, PA, take the Martz Trailways bus to Philadelphia. Once you arrive at the bus terminal in Philadelphia, transfer to the SEPTA train at the 69th Street Terminal. Take the train to the Manayunk Station. From there, you can either take a taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to Hermit Lane where Kelpius Cave is located. Be sure to check the bus and train schedules in advance, as they may vary. The overall travel time may take around 3 to 4 hours.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, cycling to Kelpius Cave can be a scenic experience. Starting from the town of New Hope, PA, take the Delaware Canal Towpath South. This path follows the Delaware River and offers beautiful views. Follow the path for approximately 12 miles until you reach the area near the confluence with the Schuylkill River. From there, navigate toward Hermit Lane, which will lead you to Kelpius Cave. Ensure you have a good map or GPS device, as some areas can be tricky to navigate. This journey may take approximately 2-3 hours, depending on your cycling speed.
