Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start by making your way to Cusco, the nearest major city to Choquequirao. From Cusco, take the road to the town of San Salvador de Huacarpay, which is approximately 30 km away. Continue on this road until you reach the town of Curawasi. Here, you will need to turn left and follow the signs to Abancay. Once in Abancay, follow the signs towards Cachora, which is the starting point for the Choquequirao Trek. The total driving distance from Cusco to Cachora is about 170 km and may take around 4-5 hours, depending on road conditions.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Choquequirao by public transportation, start from Cusco. Head to the Terminal Terrestre (bus station) in Cusco and purchase a ticket to Abancay. The bus ride takes around 3-4 hours. Once you arrive in Abancay, you will need to take a local minivan or taxi to Cachora, which is approximately 30 km away. This additional leg of the journey may take around 1 hour. From Cachora, you can begin your trek to Choquequirao.

• Hiking

  Once you reach Cachora, you will have to hike approximately 30 kilometers to reach Choquequirao. The trek usually takes 2-3 days, depending on your pace and how many stops you make along the way. Make sure to prepare adequately with food, water, and camping gear if you plan to camp along the route.

• Guided Tours

  If you prefer a hassle-free experience, consider booking a guided tour from a travel agency. Many agencies in Cusco offer packages that include transportation from Cusco to Cachora, meals, a guide, and sometimes even camping equipment. Prices vary from $300 to $600 per person depending on the duration and inclusions of the tour. Make sure to book in advance, especially during the high season.
