Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from the center of Huánuco, start by heading west on Leon de Huánuco Street. Follow this road for approximately 3.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Carretera Huánuco - La Unión. Turn left onto Carretera Huánuco - La Unión and continue driving for about 20 kilometers. You will see signs directing you to Laguna Viña de Huánuco. The drive should take around 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel, as there are limited gas stations on the way.

• Public Transportation

  For those utilizing public transportation, head to the main bus terminal in Huánuco, located near Plaza de Armas. Look for buses or shared vans (colectivos) heading to La Unión or the nearby villages. The fare is usually around 5-10 PEN. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Laguna Viña de Huánuco. The journey will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Once you arrive, you may need to walk about 15 minutes from the bus stop to reach the lake, so wear comfortable shoes.

• Taxi

  You can also hire a taxi from Huánuco for a more direct route. Arrange for a taxi to take you to Laguna Viña de Huánuco, which will generally cost around 50-80 PEN for a round trip. The driver will wait for you to explore the area before returning to Huánuco. Ensure to negotiate the fare beforehand and confirm the return time.

• Walking

  If you are feeling adventurous and are in decent shape, you can also consider hiking to Laguna Viña de Huánuco from the nearest village, which is approximately 5 kilometers away. The hike takes about 1.5 hours. Start from the village of Tingo María and follow the signs toward the lake. Be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are no shops along the trail.
