The history of Station 1 in Boracay begins with the indigenous Ati people, who are believed to have inhabited the island long before the arrival of Spanish colonizers in the 16th century. They lived in harmony with nature and relied on fishing, hunting, and gathering for sustenance, establishing a rich cultural heritage that included unique rituals, crafts, and traditions.

With the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century, Boracay was integrated into the colonial administration. The island was largely overlooked during the early years of colonization, but as trade routes expanded, it began to gain attention. The Spanish influence can still be seen in local customs and religious practices, particularly in the annual celebration of the Ati-Atihan Festival, which honors the Ati people.

During World War II, Boracay, like many parts of the Philippines, was affected by the Japanese occupation. Station 1, primarily known for its pristine beaches, experienced disruptions as the local populace faced hardships during the war. Post-war, the area began to recover and saw the establishment of small businesses catering to local fishermen and farmers, thus laying the groundwork for future tourism.

The 1980s marked a significant turning point for Station 1 as Boracay started to emerge as a premier tourist destination. Station 1 became known for its upscale resorts and vibrant nightlife, contributing to the overall development of tourism infrastructure on the island.

In recent years, Station 1 has seen a shift towards sustainable tourism practices. Concerns over environmental degradation led to initiatives aimed at preserving the natural beauty of Boracay. The local government has implemented measures to regulate tourism and promote eco-friendly practices, ensuring that the rich cultural and natural heritage of Station 1 and the wider Boracay region is protected for future generations.

To reach Station 1 in Boracay, first, fly into Caticlan Airport (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport) or Kalibo International Airport. From Caticlan, take a short boat ride (approximately 10-15 minutes) to Boracay Island. Once on the island, tricycles are the primary mode of transportation to Station 1, which is about a 15-20 minute ride. If you arrive at Kalibo, a shuttle service can take you to Caticlan where you can then board a boat to Boracay.

Station 1 is a walkable area with many attractions, restaurants, and shops within easy reach on foot. For longer distances, you can use tricycles, which are widely available and inexpensive. Motorbikes and bicycles can also be rented from local shops if you prefer exploring at your own pace. Note that there are no trains or buses on the island.

Station 1 is generally safe for tourists, but like any popular travel destination, it is wise to stay vigilant. Avoid isolated areas at night and be cautious of your belongings in crowded places. Petty theft, such as pickpocketing, can occur, especially in busy tourist spots. It's advisable to avoid poorly lit areas after dark.

In case of emergencies, dial 911 for police and medical assistance. Local hospitals and clinics are available in Boracay for urgent care. It is highly recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical needs. Pharmacies are also present in Station 1 for minor health issues, where you can find over-the-counter medications.

Try the local delicacies such as 'chori burger' and fresh seafood from beachside eateries. Don’t miss the opportunity to join local beach activities like paddleboarding or kite surfing, which are popular among residents.
