Car
If you are driving from a central location in Spisz, such as Niedzica or Zegiestów, head north on the S7 road towards Nowy Targ. After approximately 30 km, take the exit towards Szczawnica on DK47. Continue until you reach the town of Szczawnica, which is a popular base for exploring the Pieniny Spiskie mountains. Once in Szczawnica, follow the signs for the Pieniny National Park, where you can find parking near the hiking trails leading into the mountains. Note that parking may incur a fee, typically around 10-20 PLN for the day.
Public Transport
To reach the Pieniny Spiskie mountains by public transport, take a bus from either Nowy Targ or Kraków to Szczawnica. Buses run regularly, and the journey from Nowy Targ takes about 1 hour, while from Kraków, it can take around 2.5 hours. Once you arrive in Szczawnica, you can walk to the Pieniny National Park entrance, which is approximately a 20-minute walk from the bus station. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary, especially on weekends.
Combination of Car and Hiking
If you prefer a more adventurous route, you can drive to the village of Sromowce Niżne, which is an entry point to the Pieniny Spiskie mountains. From Sromowce Niżne, you can hike towards the mountains, enjoying stunning views along the way. The drive from central Spisz to Sromowce Niżne takes about 30 minutes via the DK47 road. Ensure your vehicle is parked legally, as there may be designated parking areas that charge a fee. From the parking area, look for marked hiking trails leading up into the mountains.
