Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring Caniçada Dam.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Public Bus
From the center of Braga, head to the 'Estação de Autocarros' (Bus Station), located near the Avenida da Liberdade. Take bus number 1 (or any bus heading towards Caniçada) and enjoy the scenic ride. The bus will take you through beautiful countryside and drop you off at the Caniçada Dam stop. From there, follow the signs to the Rio Cávado, which is a short walk from the bus stop.
Walking
If you're near the Cathedral of Braga (Sé de Braga), you can walk towards the Parque da Ponte. Head southeast on Rua do Raio, then turn left onto Avenida da Liberdade. Continue straight until you reach the bus station, then follow the public bus instructions above to get to Rio Cávado. Alternatively, you can walk along the scenic paths near the river, but this may take longer.
Taxi or Rideshare
If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi or use a rideshare app. Simply ask the driver to take you to 'Rio Cávado' or 'Caniçada Dam'. The ride will take approximately 20 minutes, depending on traffic. Ensure the driver knows to drop you off at the dam area for easy access to the river.
