Getting There

Train
From Cascais station, board the train towards Lisbon (Cascais Line). Stay on the train for about 20 minutes until you reach Cais do Sodré station in Lisbon. Once you arrive, exit the train and follow the signs to the Metro. Take the Metro (Green Line) towards Telheiras and get off at the Baixa-Chiado station. From there, transfer to the Blue Line and travel towards Santa Apolónia. Get off at the next station, Cais do Sodré. After exiting the station, head to the ferry terminal located just a short walk from the train station and board the ferry to Cacilhas. Upon arriving in Cacilhas, walk straight ahead for about 10 minutes until you reach the base of the hill leading up to Castelo de Almada.

From the Cascais city center, find the bus stop for the Scotturb bus line 403, which heads towards Almada. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes. Get off at the Almada stop, which is close to the city center. From there, you can either walk or take a local bus (line 105) towards the Castelo de Almada, which should take around 10 minutes. If walking, head north on Rua da Liberdade, then take a right onto Rua de São João until you reach the castle entrance.

To reach Castelo de Almada via ferry, start at the Cascais ferry terminal. Purchase a ticket for the ferry to Cacilhas, which is a scenic ride across the river and takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Cacilhas terminal, exit the terminal and walk up the hill towards the castle. It’s a steep walk that should take around 15-20 minutes. Follow the signs for Castelo de Almada, and enjoy the views as you make your way up.
