Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, head south from Lisbon on the A2 highway. Take the exit for Costa da Caparica (Exit 1) and follow the signs for Costa da Caparica. Once you arrive in the town, follow Avenida 1º de Maio until you reach the roundabout. Take the second exit onto Avenida dos Pescadores, which will lead you directly to Praia de São João. There is parking available near the beach, but be aware that it may incur a fee during peak season.

• Public Transportation - Bus

  To reach Praia de São João using public transportation, take the bus from Lisbon's Praça de Espanha station. You can catch the TST (Transportes Sul do Tejo) bus line 153, which goes directly to Costa da Caparica. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Costa da Caparica bus terminal, exit the bus and walk towards the beach, following the signs to Praia de São João. The walk is approximately 15-20 minutes. Make sure to check the bus schedule, as frequency may vary.

• Public Transportation - Metro and Bus

  Another option is to take the Metro from Lisbon. Board the Blue Line (Linha Azul) at any station heading towards Santa Apolónia. Transfer at Cais do Sodré to catch the train to the Costa da Caparica railway station. From there, you can take the bus line 153 or 152 towards Costa da Caparica. After arriving at the Costa da Caparica bus terminal, walk towards Praia de São João, which is about a 15-20 minute walk away. Ensure to check the latest train and bus schedules for accurate timing.
