Train
To reach Carcavelos from central Lisbon, you can take the train from Cais do Sodré station. Start by making your way to Cais do Sodré, which is accessible via the Lisbon Metro (Green Line). Once at Cais do Sodré, purchase a ticket for the Cascais line. The train to Carcavelos runs frequently, approximately every 20 minutes. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive at Carcavelos station, exit the station and follow the signs to the beach, which is about a 10-minute walk straight down Rua da Liberdade.
Bus
If you prefer to take the bus, you can catch a bus from central Lisbon (such as from Praça da Figueira). Look for bus number 403 or 405, which will take you to Carcavelos. Make sure to check the bus schedule as the frequency may vary. The bus ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Carcavelos, get off at the main stop, and you can walk towards the beach which is nearby.
Tram
Although there is no direct tram line to Carcavelos, you can take tram 28 from various points in Lisbon to Praça do Comércio. From there, take the train from Cais do Sodré as mentioned above. This option allows you to experience a scenic tram ride through the historic neighborhoods of Lisbon before heading to the train station. The total travel time will be longer, about 1 hour including the tram and train rides.
