Car
If you are traveling by car, start by heading towards the town of São Vicente. From Funchal, take the VE4 road heading north. Continue on the VE4 for approximately 30 km until you reach São Vicente. Once in São Vicente, follow the signs for ER101 towards Ribeira Brava. After about 5 km, turn onto Caminho da Barreira. You will find parking available along this road. The stoney beach is a short walk from the parking area.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take the bus from Funchal to São Vicente. The bus company 'SAM' operates routes to São Vicente, and you can catch the bus at the main bus terminal in Funchal. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes. Once you arrive in São Vicente, you can either walk to the beach (around 30 minutes) or take a local taxi to the stoney beach. Ensure you have some cash for the taxi fare, which can vary but typically costs around €10.
Walking
If you choose to walk from the bus stop in São Vicente, head towards the coast and follow the signs to ER101. After passing a few local shops and restaurants, turn onto Caminho da Barreira. The beach is located at the end of this path. The total walking distance from the bus stop is about 2.5 km and will take roughly 30 minutes.
